Preview: What's happening in round nine of the 2022 MLS season

A huge game is in store as Austin FC travel to face Houston Dynamo for another installment of the so-called "Texan Derbies". Austin, who are in their sophomore term in MLS, have really hit the ground running. They come into this contest in second spot, having won three of their last five matches. By contrast, Houston sit in seventh, five points behind their upcoming opponents and are winless in their last two, so it's safe to say that they'll be looking to try to derail Austin's strong start to the season on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Nashville SC, who have also struggled for form as of late, will hope that their first game in their new stadium will bring them luck as they take on Eastern Conference leaders Philadelphia Union, who will also be seeking to get back on track after failing to win their last two ties.

Given that they play later, Western Conference leaders Los Angeles FC could actually find themselves slipping down to second if Austin beat Houston, and that's something they will have in mind when they lock horns with Minnesota United on Sunday evening.

And struggling San Jose Earthquakes, who finally won their first match of the season last time out, will hope that result could propel them when they face a New York City FC team who recently arrested their downward trend by winning back to back fixtures lately.
