The first legs of all ties ended with the top-seeded teams earning narrow leads. Will they be able to hold on to them and reach the semis?

The first legs in the Liga MX Quarterfinals left fans and experts wanting more action, which will most likely be found in the return legs of each tie.

None of the host teams in the midweek games was able to take some sort of lead to the second match of their series, which will certainly result in an advantage for the teams that will play this weekend's games at home. Out of the four ties, Cruz Azul and Guadalajara seem to have the toughest quests ahead of them, as they will both need to win by a two-goal margin to make it to the next round.

It will be interesting to see how Pachuca, Tigres, Atlas, and América handle their current advantage ahead of these games, mainly because almost everyone of these teams had some problems at some point when playing home games.

Let us have a closer look at each one of the games that will take place in the next 48 hours.

América vs Puebla - May 14, 2022 at 19:00 ET

América survived their trip to Estadio Cuauhtémoc and claimed a controversial one-all draw thanks to a goal by Sebastían Cáceres. Some experts and most of América's haters believe that their goal should have been disallowed due to an alleged offside, but with the goal going up on the scoreboard, it is now a matter of who handles things better in this return tie. Puebla have only won one of their last six games (including their Liguilla match), while América bounced back in the competition to put up a ten-game streak without a loss, although their last two games have ended in a draw. Will Las Águilas return to the semi-finals for the first time since 2019, or will Puebla claim a shocking win at the legendary Estadio Azteca?

Pachuca vs Atlético San Luis - May 14, 2022 at 21:05 ET

San Luis scored a late late goal during their first match of this tie, keeping their options to eliminate Pachuca alive. The hosts were almost perfect in home games this season, dropping points in only two of their eight home games this season. Atlético San Luis' rise to reach the Liguilla saw them win three out of their last five matches, with only one of those victories coming away from home. Last week, the red and white side claimed a huge away win against Monterrey after penalties days after being labeled as the major underdog in this Liguilla. Will they be able to shock the No. 1 seed in the tournament?

Atlas vs Guadalajara - May 15, 2022 at 19:00 ET

Jalisco's "civil war" saw the defending champions taking a one-goal lead over their bitter rivals. Nevertheless, Guadalajara have proven to be quite effective against their neighbors when it comes to Liguilla matches, so Atlas cannot rely on their narrow lead to call themselves favorites. Las Chivas could play this game without star player Alexis Vega, and if interim coach Ricardo Cadena wants to apply for the permanent job as Chivas' boss, this do-or-die game will be the perfect opportunity to prove him as worthy of landing such a gig.

Tigres UANL vs Cruz Azul - May 15, 2022 at 21:05 ET

Tigres were able to take a narrow one-nil lead after Thursday's game, but it will not be an easy task for them to keep it against La Máquina. Coach Juan Reynoso may have realized how Angel Romero could turn things around for his team if given a starting spot, and his presence in the lineup could have a major effect in the outcome of this tie. Regarding the hosts, all Miguel Herrera's team must do to make it to the semis is try and show the same consistency they had when playing at home this season, but with the coach unavailable due to his red card in the first leg, and with Nico López's absence confirmed due to his suspension after the first leg, then the team from the North side of Mexico will have to work out a different tactic to end La Máquina's title hopes for good.
