The veteran midfielder will remain the club's top holding midfielder, but coach Xavi Hernández is already thinking about the man that could fill his void.

It is going to be a busy transfer window for Barcelona, as Xavi Hernández and president Joan Laporta try to give the club proper reinforcements to challenge Real Madrid and Atlético for the title.

With that in mind, the coach has already started to speak with his potential transfer targets to try and convince them of playing for the Blaugrana side, even if they have to collect less money than in their current teams.

This approach has forced Barcelona to look for potential replacements that can also be deemed as low-cost, which is the case of who could become Sergio Busquets' replacement. According to Spanish newspaper Sport, the coach for Los Culés' has already spoken to Wolves' midfielder Rubén Neves to try and lure him to the Camp Nou as soon as possible, with the main goal for him being to replace Busquets on the long run.

The Portuguese international has played for the English side since 2017, when he left Porto to join Wolverhampton. According to the Spanish publication Neves is eager to join Los Blaugranas after speaking to Xavi, which could be used as leverage with his team in case an offer for his services arrives.

The footballer is still under contract with Wolverhampton until the end of the 2023-24 season, but his interest in leaving the club along with an interesting offer by Los Blaugranas could pave the way for his exit.

If this move ends up taking place, Los Culés would be hiring the potential replacement for veteran midfielder Sergio Busquets, who is still one of the most reliable players within the squad, but who's age has started creating some selection problems for Xavi in tough moments of the season. Busquets' deal with Barcelona comes to an end next summer, which could also benefit the club if they want to keep him around for less money.
