How to watch the Mexico vs Ecuador friendly in the U.S. and the world

June 4, 2022 By Oscar Rojas
El Tri return to action in need of a win that can calm the criticism the team has been subject to due to their poor performances this year.

Mexico will end their pre-CONCACAF Nations League matches with a clash against Ecuador, one of the South American teams that made it to the FIFA World this winter. Both El Tri and La Tricolor will use this match to prepare for that competition, but it will also come in handy for Mexico to make their debut in one momre edition of the CONCACAF competition.

The history between El Tri and the yellow and blue side goes way back, with these teams even going at it in FIFA World Cup editions. Now, Mexico will try to use this game as an ego boost following some disappointing results that have jeopardized coach Martino's job ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

Mexico will get to this game after being slammed by Uruguay in their previous match. Mexico were blasted by both fans and media experts due to their poor performance, which ended with Uruguay scoring three times and with Mexico barely taking a shot on goal. That fact has seen Mexico's strikers having to deal with a lot of pressure, especially against center-forward Raúl Jiménez, who has not scored an open play goal since November 2020.

On the other hand, Ecuador will play their second match of their ongoing North American tour. Their first match ended in a one-nil win against Nigeria, which was sorted out with an early goal by Pervis Estupiñán. The South Americans are preparing for the FIFA World Cup with this tour, although they are still waiting for a decision by the Court of Arbitrage in Sports (CAS) about their use of an illegal player that could leave them out of the competition.

For this match, coach Gustavo Alfaro will surely use some of their top players, which include Enner Valencia, Leonardo Campana, Romario Ibarra, and the aforementioned Pervis Estupiñán. Youngsters Jeremy Sarmiento and Troyes' Jackson Porozo will be among those trying to earn a spot in the roster to play the World Cup next winter...if they are cleared by CAS' investigation.

Considering that both teams will have some of their best men available, this should be a must-watch clash for all football enthusiasts.
