The Portuguese midfielder is wanted at the Camp Nou but the Blaugrana's pursuit has been handed a huge hurdle.

Despite winning a second consecutive Premier League title at Manchester City, Bernardo Silva continues to be linked with an Etihad Stadium exit.

The Portuguese ace is one of Guardiola's most influential players and has risen in prominence in his squad since asking to leave last summer. Nonetheless, the former Monaco midfielder is the target of interest from one of the biggest clubs in the world: Barcelona.

The Blaugrana dream of bringing the 27-year-old to the Camp Nou. In fact, during a visit by Jorge Mendes, who is the player's agent, Silva's name was brought up as a possible addition to Xavi's squad.

Unfortunately for the Catalan giants, Manchester City are not keen on seeing the midfielder go and have thus slapped a hefty price tag on the maestro. According to Marca, the Cityzens declared that no less than 100 million euros would be required to bring them to the table for discussions.

What does this mean for Barcelona's hopes of landing Bernardo? Due to the club's financial woes and the FFP rules within La Liga, signing Silva this summer would be nearly impossible.

Spanish top-flight regulations state that for every euro spent, the Blaugrana would have to generate three or four euros in order to avoid breaching FFP rules. This means that for a transfer fee of 100 million euros and a likely annual amortization of 40 million euros, the Catalans would likely have to generate 120-160 million this summer to fund this move.

Frenkie de Jong could be sold to Manchester United for a high fee to raise funds, but with the Robert Lewandowski signing taking utmost priority, the Dutchman's exit would likely pave the way for Bayern Munich's Polish striker to arrive.
