Mexico vs Suriname - Where to watch the CONCACAF Nations League match

June 11, 2022 By Oscar Rojas
After a series of woeful results in their friendlies, Mexico look to go back to winning ways against the Suriboys. Follow this match with our guide.

Mexico begin their run in the CONCACAF Nations League with more doubts than certainties, and what better way to erase those doubts than managing to claim a convincing win against Suriname. The team from the Caribbean will be playing their third game of the competition, and judging by their recent results, Mexico should be able to walk out of this match with all the points in their bag.

Mexico have been anything but impressive during their warmup games leading to this match, with Gerardo Martino's men being able to win one of their three previous games (a 2-1 win vs Nigeria). Their form in front of goal has raised questions about their strikers' capabilites, and with Martino deciding to give most of his stars a chance to rest, all goalscoring duties will fall on Henry Martín, Santiago Giménez, Rodolfo Pizarro and Marcelo Flores, the 18-year-old starlet that recently vowed his loyalty to El Tri.

This time, coach Martino has decided to give the young blood a chance to shine, with players such as Carlos Acevedo, Israel Reyes, Diego Lainez, and Érick Sánchez getting ready to prove their worth. Martino has said publicly that he is still configurating the roster for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and these games could be crucial for all players to earn their ticket to Qatar as part of the team.

On the other hand, Suriname will be gunning for their first win of the competition after being frustrated twice in a row by Jamaica. The Suriboys were unable to win their home match against the Reggae Boyz, while their second match concluded in a 3-1 defeat. If Suriname drop points this weekend, their run in the CONCACAF Nations League will come to an end.

Even with this grim scenario, Suriname may still have reasons to look forward for this game. One of those is the potential all-time goalscoring record for the team, with Gleofilo Vlijter being two goals away from becoming Suriname's all-time top scorer. While this may be easier said than done, Vlijter has managed to climb the ranks with thirteen goals in just 15 games, leaving the door open for a record-breaking brace against El Tri.

Let's have a closer look at what could be ahead of us for this international match set to take place at TSM Stadium in Torreón.
