The Swiss stunned their Portuguese opponent with the scorer of the game's only goal entering the history books in the process.

Switzerland secured their first win of the UEFA Nations League campaign and turned Group A2 on its head with Sunday night's victory over Portugal in Geneva. The Swiss were inspired to the win by Haris Seferović, with the striker scoring the competition's fastest-ever goal to hand his side a narrow 1-0 win over the Seleccao.

The hosts challenged their position at the bottom of Group A2 by taking the lead against a much-changed Portugal side that was missing talisman Cristiano Ronaldo. After just 57 seconds, the deadlock was broken. Silvan Widmer's released a teasing cross from the right and was successful in picking out Haris Seferović in the box of the visitors. The Benfica forward reacted immediately, beating a helpless Rui Patricio by sending a powerful header into the far corner of the net.

It took Portugal sometime to reorganise themselves properly following the early setback but Fernando Santos' men could not fashion an adequate reply. However, the hosts were up to everything and stood their grounds to secure a third successive home win over the Portuguese.

Rightly so, Seferovic's strike has taken the headlines as his goal is the fastest-ever scored in the UEFA Nations League. The forward also became the first player to score in the opening minute for the Swiss national side since Alain Sutter in 1988.

The night's win has blown the group wide open. Following Portugal's defeat, they have been demoted to second on the table, with Spain climbing to the top after their 2-0 win over Czech Republic.
