With the Haaland deal out of the way, the Cityzens are now ready to move on to their next target, who is already familiar to Premier League fans.

While Manchester City won the race for Erling Haaland weeks ago, the deal for the Norwegian superstar was only completed and announced yesterday.

The Cityzens convinced the 21-year-old ace to put pen to paper on a five-year deal, with Argentine talent Julián Álvarez also set to arrive at the Etihad Stadium this summer, but instead from River Plate.

With those two attackers being signed, Guardiola looks to have addressed his side's need for true goalscorers. With that out of the way, what is next for the Premier League champions in the ongoing summer transfer window?

According to Goal, the English giants are keen on strengthening their midfield next and have even identified their next target. That man is none other than Kalvin Phillips, the Leeds ace who has established himself as one of the league's top marshals.

The report states that the club are now "ready to step up their interest' in the Englishman as Pep is in need of a defensive midfielder due to the departure of the iconic Fernandinho. Rodri enjoyed a wonderful campaign last season, but in Phillips, City would get a quality starter and competition for the Spaniard.

The 26-year-old has been away on international duty, joining up with the Three Lions for their start to the new UEFA Nations League campaign. However, that isn't the only complication as Manchester City are facing competition for the Elland Road ace.

Aston Villa and Newcastle, two clubs who could offer the aforementioned star more playing time, are said to be eyeing Phillips. However, with the Cityzens ruling out moves for Frenkie de Jong and Declan Rice in favor of Kalvin, expect the English champions to intensify their interest once the player returns from international duty.

Leeds, meanwhile, are heavily pushing for Bayern Munich defensive midfielder Marc Roca which could be in preparation for Phillips' potential departure.

Manchester City are also targeting a left-back and could potentially raid another Premier League side. The club have been linked with Brighton talent Marc Cucurella who enjoyed a brilliant 2021/22 campaign at the Amex last term.
