The Belgian striker has secured a move back to his former club following a forgettable spell at Chelsea.

Romelu Lukaku is set to return to Inter Milan after the Serie A club and Chelsea reached an agreement on a loan transfer. The deal was brokered on Tuesday following days of negotiations and the former have finally agreed to pay the Blues $8.4M fee for the 27-year-old Belgian.

Last summer, Lukaku re-joined Chelsea in a club record transfer worth over $123M. However, the player's return has been characteristed by a series of controversies that have put him in the bad books of the club's supporters. On the field of play, Belgian eventually became surplus to requirements for head coach Thomas Tuchel and, having finished as the Serie A's top-goalscorer in the 2020/2021 season, registered only eight goals in 26 appearances in his Premier League return.

With all love lost between the Belgian striker and Chelsea, the London club decided to cut their losses and allow the player to move on. Lukaku had infamously revealed in an interview with Sky Sport that he wished to return to Inter Milan and had reportedly been reaching out to figures he knew at the club to go on a rescue mission for him. Last week, it was revealed that the Serie A runners-up could not afford to sign the Belgian striker but were keen on recruiting him for next season.

On Tuesday, Sky Italia stated that a compromise has finally been reached with Lukaku set for a return to Sn Siro. According to the report, the move is subject to a medical and pending official announcement, with Inter expected to pay Chelsea $8.4M with potential add-ons for the season-long loan.
