The Gunners have been linked with Lazio's Serbian superstar but is he target no.1 for the Gunners?

While much of the conversation surrounding Arsenal's summer transfer window plans have been about Lisandro Martinez and Raphinha, the Gunners remain keen on adding another midfielder to their ranks.

The aforementioned Ajax center-back and Leeds attacker were prioritized after Arteta's crew wrapped up a deal for Portuguese playmaker Fabio Vieira, but the north London giants do wish to bolster their midfield even more.

As a result, the recent links with Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic might excite the fans. The Serbian ace is one of the most highly-rated midfielders in Serie A, having enjoyed another brilliant campaign in 2021/22, scoring 11 times while assisting another 11 goals in the Italian top-flight alone.

And according to Italian news outlet Il Messaggero (as per TEAM talk), Arsenal had a bid worth £47M rejected and are planning to make a second offer worth £55.6M for the 27-year-old star, which is closer to Lazio's asking price.

However, is there any truth to these claims? Given the Gunners' well-documented interest in Leicester City talent Youri Tielemans, this transfer update came as a pleasant surprise to Gooners.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on this situation and it's not great news for Arsenal fans dying to see the Serbian ace at the Emirates Stadium. According to the Italian journalist (as per Football 365), Tielemans will be prioritized over the Serbian for one simple reason: the Belgian will cost a lot less as he is entering the final year of his Leicester contract.

Nonetheless, Arteta's side appear focused on the Lisandro Martinez pursuit and will likely return to their Tielemans pursuit later on. Arsenal are keen on brining the Argentine talent to north London but face stiff competition from Manchester United, with Erik ten Hag wishing to reunite with the center-back at Old Trafford.
