Chelsea reach agreement for EPL star

Chelsea reach agreement for EPL star and are now preparing to hijack Man Utd's De Jong transfer

July 7, 2022 By Ali M.
After attempting to hijack deals for Gabriel Jesus, Richarlison, and Raphinha; the Blues are now reportedly keen on doing the same for De Jong.

Chelsea's summer transfer business is now picking up pace, with the London giants being on the brink of completing their first major deal under their new Boehly and Co. ownership.

According to the latest reports, the Blues have all but completed a deal for Raheem Sterling, with the 27-year-old attacker agreeing personal terms with the FIFA Club World Cup holders. The Athletic report that the English international had a conversation with Thomas Tuchel and was impressed by the Stamford Bridge coach's vision, which played a huge role in this decision.

As a result, the Manchester City ace has accepted Chelsea's offer, meaning the Premier League giants will simply need to agree a fee with the champions of England. This is seen as a mere formality, with the Blues expected to meet the Cityzens' £45M ($54M) asking price.

Additionally, Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports Golazo adds that this deal, which could possibly rise to £55M, could be completed as early as today (Thursday, July 7). When wrapped up, this addition will be a welcomed one for Tuchel and Co. as the former Liverpool winger was one of the German tactician's no.1 priorities for the summer.

And to make things more interesting, Chelsea will reportedly rival a fellow Premier League heavyweight for the signature of one of world football's most talented midfielders. That player is none other than Frenkie de Jong, the Dutch ace who has been heavily pursued by Manchester United.

This piece of information, initially broken by Relevo, was corroborated by the well-known Gerard Romero, who states that the London giants are starting to make a strong push for the former Ajax maestro. Given that the Blues have already attempted several hijacks this summer already; namely Gabriel Jesus, Richarlison, and Raphinha; this will come as little surprise.

One thing working in Chelsea's favor is Barcelona's interest in Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta. The Catalan giants have been involved in discussions with the Blues over the aforementioned Spanish defenders, which could give the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League winners an advantage over the Red Devils. Additionally, the Camp Nou ace would get UEFA Champions football in the English capital but not at Old Trafford.

Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how the De Jong transfer saga ends. With the Blaugrana allegedly owing the player a whopping £17M in deferred wages, this is a complicated situation to maneuver through for all parties.
