Four more teams, including reigning champs Netherlands, will be in action as the 2022 UEFA Women's EURO competition continues on Saturday, July 9th.

Preview: Portugal vs Switzerland

Both Portugal and Switzerland are featuring at the EURO competition for the second time, and each side will be hoping to make some kind of impact after making their respective debuts in 2017. Portugal secured their spot here under unexpected circumstances; after losing 1-0 to Russia during the playoffs, it appeared that Francisco Neto's team unfortunately would not have a chance to feature this summer. However, as a result of the conflict featuring Russia and Ukraine over in Eastern Europe, all of Russia's teams have now been kicked out of international competitions which means that Portugal were given a life-line.

Five years ago, Portugal failed to clear the group stages, and it is safe to say that they will be hoping for a better run this time around, especially as they do come into this competition in solid form, with three wins and a draw from their last four games. That being said, the Selecção will face an uphill battle in their quartet as they have both reigning champs the Netherlands as well as Sweden for company, while Switzerland will also be hoping to put themselves in good contention for a spot in the knockout rounds.

Meanwhile, Switzerland have faced a tough start to 2022, with four losses from their last six games heading into this competition. La Nati were thoroughly beaten by Germany (7-0) and England (4-0) which really does not help much for their confidence ahead of this competition. However, with Sweden and Netherlands going head to head and one side expected to drop points, Switzerland will look to this tie as an opportunity to potentially get some points on the board ahead of tougher tests ahead.

Preview: Netherlands vs Sweden

Reigning EURO champs Netherlands will begin their title defense with a tough test, as they will take on Sweden on Saturday evening. Both teams come into this match in strong form, with the Oranje having won four of their last five matches across all comps, while the Blågult also have won four of their last five. For Sweden, revenge will also be on their minds after the Netherlands beat them five years ago in the quarter-finals en route to eventually winning the final. For the Netherlands, they will be hoping to win back to back titles after seeing their stock rise over the past decade.

The reigning champs do come into this game having suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to England at the end of last month, but at the same time, have been given a boost with the return of key players Lieke Martens and Daniëlle van de Donk from injury. Additionally, confidence will be a bit higher following two consecutive wins over Belarus and Finland.

Sweden, for their part will be aiming to make a big impression here. Since winning the inaugural competition in 1984, the Blågult have made it to at least the quarter-finals in all but two competitions, but have little to show for their efforts. Will they be able to overcome the hurdles placed in their path and make a run to this summer's finals?
