The Blaugrana side is desperate to add talent in defense, and this move would also help their ailing finances.

Barcelona's transfer woes have continued this offseason, and with the team still struggling to sign new players, negotiations to add talent to their squad will include some of the players that have been deemed surplus to Xavi's requirements.

The latest transfer rumor related to Los Culés has to do with their intention to sign Sevilla ace Jules Koundé. As reported previously, the club has always been a huge fan of the French center back, and his addition has been deemed as key to Xavi's plans to overhaul his squad. Nevertheless, the team's financial problems will force the Blaugrana side to part ways with one of their most reliable players up front, even if he just joined them last season.

The man that could be included in the deal with Sevilla would be none other than Memphis Depay, who became one of the team's top scorers in his debut season with the Catalan club. Depay has been earmarked by Xavi as expendable to his plans for next season, which could see him being used as part of the payment for Koundé.

Reports coming in from Barcelona state that Los Blaugranas are ready to offer a bit over $40M for the French defender, adding Depay to the mix to meet with Sevilla's demands. It remains to be seen if Los Hispalenses agree to this move, especially since coach Julen Lopetegui has never shown interest in signing the Dutch striker.

Barcelona will face some stiff competition to sign the footballer, as Chelsea have been named as another potential landing spot for Koundé. Moreover, the Blues are prepared to offer Sevilla's asking price rather than including players in the negotiation, which could be decisive to tip the scales in favor of the Premier League side.
