The former Chelsea midfielder was reportedly removed from his vehicle at gunpoint and was searched by police in downtown Milan.

AC Milan ace Tiemoue Bakayoko has gone viral on Twitter, but it is sadly for all the wrong reasons, as the Serie A midfielder was caught on camera having a scary interaction with Italian police due to an alleged case of mistaken identity.

In a clip now widely shared on social media by the likes of Tancredi Palmeri and other well-known reporters, the former Chelsea man can be seen held by authorities who have drawn their guns. This incident occurred at a roadblock in the Porta Garibaldi area, with a motorist behind the Frenchman capturing the event on his camera.

In the now viral footage, the San Siro player can be seen pressed up against a police car after reportedly being forced out of his car at gun point. Here, an officer can be seen patting him down thoroughly while another two have their weapons drawn out and aimed at the vehicle.

Fortunately, the officers appear to realize their mistake quickly and release Bakayoko promptly. Check out the shocking incident in the clip below.

This raises a question, however: why was the Rossoneri midfielder the victim of such an incident? An official statement by the State Police claims that this unfortunate moment was due to mistaken identity, arguing that the footballer matched the description of a suspect wanted for a shooting incident that occurred in that area.

"The search, which happened on July 3, was due to a shooting that happened in the area in the previous hours, and the two suspects were two men in a SUV fitting the description, one of the two was black and with a green shirt," the statement read, as per the Sun.

"That's why the gun was pointed."

Fortunately, Bakayoko emerged from this encounter unharmed, which is the biggest positive. The midfielder was also praised for the calmness he exhibited during this nerve-racking run-in with the police. It will be interesting to see the repercussions of this error and the conversations that might open up as a result.
