After a very strong start, EURO 2022 hosts England will look to keep up their positive momentum when they face Spain in the quarter-finals on Wednesday, July 20th.

Preview: England vs Spain

After nearly two weeks of group stage action, eight teams have secured their spot in the quarter-finals, and the first of these four knockout ties will begin on Wednesday as England face Spain. The Three Lionesses were absolutely flawless during their group stage campaign, as Sarina Wiegman's side won all three of their matches without conceding a single goal. Along the way, England, set a tournament record with their 8-0 humiliation of Norway on matchday two, and fresh off a comfortable 5-0 win over Northern Ireland, the EURO 2022 hosts will now aim to take one step closer towards the finals by seeing off Spain on Wednesday evening.

England are hoping to make it to the semi-finals - and beyond - as the Three Lionesses seek to win what would be their first major trophy. Of course, they will need to find their way past Spain, who had to really fight tooth and nail to secure their spot here. La Roja started off well, as they cruised to a 4-1 win over Finland, but suffered a setback during a 2-0 defeat to Germany.

That meant that Jorge Vilda's side needed to win on matchday three against Denmark, and despite the Danes' strong defensive efforts, Marta Cardona's late goal finally gave Spain the result they needed. Spain have been eliminated at this juncture in their last two appearances, but have been in excellent form lately, with just one loss from their last 26 across all comps. As such, while England do appear to be the heavy favorites, Spain will be aiming to cause the hosts some problems as they seek to book their spot in the semi-finals for the second time in team history.
