The Bavarians cruised to their first trophy of the season with a massive win against Leipzig on Saturday.

Bayern Munich successfully defended their German Sup Cup on Saturday night, defeating RB Leipzig to secure the title for the 10 time in history. The Bavarians put their Bundesliga rivals to the sword, scoring five times and conceding thrice as they emerged victorious in the season curtain-raiser.

It was perhaps inevitable that Julian Nagelsmann's side should start so strongly, and it did not take long for them to break the deadlock. Jamal Musiala opened the scoring in the 14th minute, hitting the back of the net from close range after Leipzig failed to deal with a corner properly.

17 minutes later, the German starlet set Serge Gnabry up to assist Sadio Mane for his first goal for Bayern Munich since completing the switch from Liverpool this summer. On the stroke of half-time Benjamin Pavard added the third to put the Bundesliga's defending champions in cruise control.

Marcel Halsterberg scored Leipzig's first in the 59th minute and Serge Gnabry made it 4-1 six minutes later. There was very little optimism restored when Christopher Nkunku converted a spot-kick in the 77th minute before the deficit was reduced to just one in the 89th minute by Dani Olmo. However, substitute Leroy Sane ended any dream of a comeback for Die Roten by scoring Bayern's fifth in the fifth minute of additional time.
