Man Utd end Arnautovic chase, offered EPL flop

Man United offered another Premier League flop as Red Devils pull out of race for Arnautovic

August 9, 2022 By Ali M.
The Red Devils look to have ended their pursuit of Arnautovic but Ten Hag's side have been offered the chance to sign another uninspiring striker.

Saturday went from bad to horrible for Manchester United fans after it was revealed that the Premier League giants were after Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic.

In the aftermath of their disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to Brighton in the opening round of the new English top-flight season, the club made a move for a new attacker, identifying the former West Ham and Stoke City ace in the midst of the Cristiano Ronaldo transfer fiasco.

Initially, the Red Devils were tipped to sign highly-rated no.9 Benjamin Šeško but the Slovenian sensation has moved from RB Salzburg to RB Leipzig instead, thus forcing Ten Hag's side to make a desperate $8M bid for the aforementioned 33-year-old.

This offer was rejected and upon becoming public knowledge, anger sparked among the Manchester United fan base, with supporters taking to social media to vent their frustrations with this pursuit. Fortunately for the Old Trafford faithful, they have gotten their wish as the 20-time English champions appear to have pulled out of this race.

This is according to ESPN, with Rob Dawson writing that Bologna's demands ended the negotiations. Additionally, the Manchester United higher-ups became aware of the backlash, due partly to the allegations of racism brought against the Austrian forward during his Euro 2020 clash against North Macedonia.

Ten Hag is keen on a back-up no.9 who can offer physicality to the squad. Anthony Martial is injured and thus missed that defeat to the Seagulls while the question marks around Ronaldo's fitness and future have to be dealt with.

The ESPN report adds that the Red Devils have been offered a striker. However, just like Arnautovic, he too is a forward well known to Premier League fans for all the wrong reasons. That man is none other than Alvaro Morata, the Spanish footballer who endured a horrible spell at Chelsea.

The 29-year-old spent last season on loan at Juventus but has returned to his parent club Atletico Madrid. The Spanish giants, however, wish to move him on and have offered his services to Manchester United. Time will tell if Ten Hag agrees to this or not.
