Man Utd agree $51M for La Liga attacker

Man United agree deal for La Liga attacker worth $51M amid Cristiano transfer saga

August 16, 2022 By Ali M.
The Red Devils are reportedly open to letting Ronaldo go and have identified this Spanish Primera Division attacker as the appropriate replacement.

Erik ten Hag's cries for further signings appears to have been heard as Manchester United are reportedly on the brink of completing a deal for a new attacker.

And no, it is not the Marko Arnautovic linked with the Red Devils a week ago. It is none other than Atletico Madrid ace Matheus Cunha, who will reportedly cost the English giants $51M. This is according to talkSPORT, claiming that this move came after a change in heart from Ten Hag regarding the Cristiano Ronaldo situation.

Cunha, who is 23, joined Simeone's side in 2021 from Hertha Berlin. Last season, the striker scored seven goals in 37 appearances for the Spanish giants and even faced Manchester United when Los Rojiblancos hosted the Premier League outfit for the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 encounter.

It should be noted that there are conflicting reports regarding this Cunha story. Well-known Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo and Sport both state that the attacker has turned down the 20-time English champions while Fabrizio Romano claims that talks are still underway.

One interesting aspect to this story is the Cristiano Ronaldo situation. Publicly, the Red Devils remain adamant that the Portuguese ace is their player. However, talkSPORT write that Ten Hag is now open to letting him go.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has – and continues to be – pushing for a Theatre of Dreams exit. The 37-year-old started in the weekend showdown at Brentford and unfortunately for Ronaldo and Co, they suffered an embarrassing 4-0 loss to the Bees.

After the final whistle, Cristiano was caught on camera storming down the pitch while a handful of his teammates went over to show appreciation to the away fans. Atletico are interested in the former Real Madrid icon but the alleged deal for Cunha does not include CR7 going the other way.
