The Reds look to have addressed their current midfield crisis, with the aforementioned Brazilian arriving at Anfield on the final day of the summer transfer window.

Liverpool fans have received a positive update in regards with transfer on the back of their thrilling 2-1 win over Newcastle in the Premier League. According to several reliable resources, the Reds are set to sign a midfielder on deadline day, though the name of that player isn’t the most exciting.

That man is none other than Arthur Melo, the Juventus midfielder who was thought to be headed to Arsenal not too long ago. After suffering a midfield crisis, the higher-ups made a surprise—and late—move for the Brazilian and have all but wrapped up this deal.

This is according to Di Marzio and Fabrizio Romano, with the latter tweeting a video of the former Barcelona man catching his flight to the UK. There he will undergo a medical before completing a loan move. There is no option to buy, meaning it is purely a temporary arrangement as he will move to Merseyside until June 2023.

This transfer, which was wrapped up quickly, brings a short-term solution to Klopp’s selection headache. The likes of Thiago and Naby Keita have struggled with injuries so far, forcing the German boss to start Harvey Elliott and Jordan Henderson more often than preferred.

While Arthur isn’t a name that will get Liverpool fans dreaming of winning the Premier League, he is a quality back-up option for Thiago, who – as mentioned earlier – continues to pick up injuries every now and then. It is no secret that Dortmund ace Jude Bellingham is the Reds’ dream target for next summer, meaning Melo will likely be a stopgap option until they launch a full bid for the English superstar.

Salah and Co. have currently climbed up to fifth in the table after their spectacular victory over the Magpies on Wednesday. Young summer signing Fabio Carvalho secured the three points in the eighth minute of stoppage time just as the game looked to be headed for a 1-1 draw. However, Manchester United, who are in action against Leicester on Thursday, could leapfrog their bitter rivals should they triumph over the Foxes.
