The latest installment of the world famous Merseyside derby will get underway this Saturday, as rivals Everton and Liverpool prepare to do battle at Goodison Park.

It has been a really difficult 2022/23 Premier League campaign for Everton, who are desperately seeking their first win of the season. The Toffees began the season with back to back losses, first going down 1-0 to Frank Lampard's former side Chelsea before being beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa, before drawing Nottingham, Brentford, and Leeds. Certainly, while there is still a lot of work to be done, Lampard will hope that at the very least, these three points from their last three fixtures will be the confidence-boosting his side really need ahead of their 241st meeting with Liverpool in the Meyserside Derby.

Everton have made some key signings, with both Idrissa Gueye and James Garner arriving on Deadline Day and also managed to hang on to young striker Anthony Gordon, who has been the key protagonist in his last two matches as it was his solitary goal that ensured that his struggling team were able to grind out a point.

Meanwhile, after a rough start to the season that saw them earn just two points from their three games, Liverpool seem to have finally started to get back on track with back to back wins in their last two fixtures. However, there is still a lot of work to do for the Reds, who cruised to a 9-0 win over Bournemouth, but struggled to earn a 2-1 win over Newcastle last time out. Indeed, Jurgen Klopp's side have yet to fully find their footing despite bringing in some key players, and with Manchester City off at a canter, the Reds will need to ensure that they can start stringing together some positive results in order to close the gap.

Team news: Everton vs Liverpool

Everton: Both Idrissa Gueye and James Garner could feature if they can be registered in time for this match, while fellow new signing Neal Maupay could also be involved. The Toffees still do have quite a few players out injured, including Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Yerry Mina, Ben Godfrey, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Mason Holgate and Andros Townsend.

Liverpool: Skipper Jordan Henderson is set to miss this match after limping off injured during his team's narrow 2-1 win over Newcastle last round. New signing Arthur is not expected to be involved as he only joined the team on Deadline Day, while Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, Ibrahima Konate, Calvin Ramsay and Caoimhin Kelleher are all still out injured. However, big money signing Darwin Nunez will return to the fold after serving a three-match ban, but it remains to be seen whether Klopp opts to bring him on as a starter or stick with Roberto Firmino, who has been in strong form lately. Both Joel Matip and Curtis Jones made it to the bench during the Newcastle fixture, so Klopp may decide to give them some minutes, along with Diogo Jota who has also returned from injury.
