The Red Devils were thrashed at the Etihad Stadium in the Manchester Derby, with Haaland and Foden scoring hat-tricks, resulting in several unwanted records for Ten Hag's men.

Sunday wasn't a great day for Manchester United.

The Red Devils headed to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City in the standout fixture of Matchweek 9. The visitors entered this clash on the back of a four-game winning streak, and despite a few fitness concerns, the 20-time English champions took on their bitter rivals with confidence.

Unfortunately, Guardiola's men quickly shattered that and blitzed past Ten Hag's men inside the first half. Phil Foden broke the deadlock extremely early, netting after only eight minutes to give the Cityzens the advantage. Just after the half-an-hour mark, Erling Haaland showed his deadliness once again, scoring twice inside four minutes to triple City's lead.

And a few minutes before half-time, Foden got on the scoresheet again, meaning Ten Hag's men entered the break with a 4-0 deficit. Marquee summer signing Antony would score a brilliant goal in the second half while Anthony Martial came off the bench to net a brace, but this did not matter as Haaland and Foden completed their hat-tricks en route to a 6-3 loss for Man United.

As a result, the Premier League giants set several unwanted milestones. For only the second time in this competition's history, the Red Devils conceded four goals in the first half of an away match, an embarrassment they first suffered just under two months ago in the 4-0 loss at Brentford in Matchweek 2.

Additionally, this was the fourth time the Old Trafford outfit have shipped in four first-half goals in a Premier League fixture since 2020-21, with the other two occurrences coming in home ties vs Tottenham in October 2020 and Liverpool in October 2021. No other team has let this happen more than twice during that same time.

With a whopping nine goals being scored, the Red Devils were also the losers in the highest-scoring Manchester Derby in history. And lastly, Manchester United became only the second club in Premier League to concede double hat-tricks in one game, with both Haaland and Foden achieving a three-goal haul. This has happened twice before but on both occasions, Southampton were on the receiving end (Pires & Pennant in 2004 and Perez & Vardy in 2019).

And then there was this unflattering statistic which showed how dominant Guardiola's men were, with Ederson mustering more touches and more successful passes than any of Ten Hag's players.

This result leaves United in sixth, one point behind fifth-placed Chelsea. Meanwhile, City have slashed Arsenal's lead at the top to a single point again as they continue their emphatic title defense.
