Nuri Sahin has joined Liverpool from Real Madrid on a loan deal. The Turkish player will remain at Anfield throughout the 2012/13 season.
Nuri Sahin talked about Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso. The ex-Borussia Dortmund player revealed how Alonso encouraged him to land at Anfield. Sahin told Liverpool’s official website:

“When he [Xabi Alonso] heard Liverpool were interested in me, he started telling me about Liverpool. He is still in love with Liverpool, I think!

“He was saying, 'Go there, you will love it. The fans will take care of you and love you' and things like that. He said Anfield is the best stadium in the world.

Xabi Alonso inspired Liverpool to achieve cup success in the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League, 2005 UEFA Super Cup, 2005/06 FA Cup and 2006 FA Community Shield.

“Xabi won a lot of trophies here, and hopefully we can do that too,” Nuri Sahin added.

Sahin struggled with injuries and competition at the Santiago Bernabeu last season. He made only 10 appearances, four of which occurred in La Liga. Arsenal showed interest in signing the 23-year-old player but it appears Liverpool won the battle to boost their midfield.

“I am happy to be here and I am looking forward to playing for Liverpool. It makes me proud to have joined such a big club like Liverpool,” Nuri Sahin told the club’s official website.

“After the first conversation we had, I was left impressed by Brendan Rodgers. He told me about how he wants to play football and what the goals are he wants to reach with Liverpool.”

On Sunday afternoon, Liverpool will host Manchester City with the aim of bouncing back from last weekend’s loss to West Bromwich Albion. The Merseyside Reds have lost only once against the Citizens in their last five meetings.
