The African midfielder feels unappreciated by the British press, which often criticizes him for the wrong reasons.

Finally, Yaya Touré came clean about why he constantly threatens to leave Manchester City. During an interview with French newspaper L'Equipe, the Ivory Coast midfielder revealed that the press has to be held responsible for his "unhappiness". According to Touré, British sportscasters don't focus on what really matters: how he performs on the pitch.

"When I came to City, in 2010, I heard people say here that I would kill football. The journalists spoke of my salary…But I was just at this club to help it grow and win titles. I often feel that I'm unhappy. A lot. Here, when it's bad, they (British journalists) highlight the faults. When it's good, they leave that in the dungeon. We, Africans, when we do a good job, we like to be rewarded, recognised," Touré stated.

Touré has only scored one goal for the Citizens in the 2015-2016 season.

Furthermore, the four-time African Player of the Year looked back at what some pundits used to say about his job with the Sky Blues, while he sorted out his influence in the team's recent success.

"Many people, beasts, I must say, have laughed at me when I said that. They wondered what I, Yaya Toure, could do to change City. And then you saw what happened next? We almost won everything," the player added.

Touré is expected to play for Manchester City against Sevilla, during Matchday 3 of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
