Markiza TV History, Coverage, Features
Markiza, also known as TV Markiza, is a Slovak television channel owned and operated by the Central European Media Enterprises. The channel was launched on August 31, 1996, becoming at one point the only television station in Slovakia to air foreign tv shows and movies until 2002. It was previously owned by politician Pavol Rusko, but it now is part of a network that also includes Slovak channels such as Doma and Dajto.
Over the years, Markiza has been known as a general entertainment channel, with news broadcasts, TV series, movies, documentaries, game shows, soap operas, weather broadcasts, and more available on the channel’s grid. As stated before, most of the channel’s content has come from abroad, with some of the most popular shows on the network coming from the United States and other countries. Speaking about sports, Markiza has covered a variety of disciplines via highlights, as the channel has not been able to air live sports events for quite a while.
The Slovakian channel Markiza was launched in Standard Definition, but a High-Definition feed was made available to improve the viewer’s experience. Both feeds may still be available to watch via the different pay-tv carriers that operate in the country.
