About Nova TV
Nova TV is a free-to-air television channel from Croatia, which is owned and operated by the United Group. It was launched on May 28, 2000, becoming the first commercial television channel in the country. During its earlier years, the channel was owned by the Central European Media Enterprises, but that changed in 2018, when the United Group bought the channel.
Since its launch, Nova TV has been known as a general entertainment channel. News broadcasts, reality shows, soap operas, children’s programming, sports, tv series, sitcoms, and movies have been included in the channel’s grid over the years, making it a reference in Croatian television. Although most of the channel’s content has been produced abroad, Nova TV has also made the most out of their in-house productions, which have included their own versions of talent programs and reality shows.
Speaking about sports, Nova TV has covered alpine skiing events, boxing bouts, football games, and more, with some of those events giving the channel some of its highest rating numbers in history. When it comes to football, Nova TV has covered both club football and national team games. Some of the tournaments aired in the channel over the years have included the UEFA Champions League, the German Bundesliga, or the English Premier League. Added to that, Nova TV has covered competitions that feature national teams such as the UEFA Nations League, friendlies, World Cup Qualifiers, and UEFA Euro Qualifying games.
Initially, Nova TV was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed was developed from 2008 and eventually launched in the early 2010s. Both feeds may still be available in some regions of the country.
