About League Two
The English Football League Two is the third-highest division of The Football League and fourth-highest division overall in the English football league system. It was previously known as the Football League Third Division, but a rebranding in 2004 led to it assuming the current title.
The Football League Two operates on a system of promotion and relegation with 24 teams competing. Each team plays 46 matches overall in a season (23 at home and 23 away). A win attracts three points, a draw attracts one point, and no point is given for a defeat.
The champions of the division, alongside the first and second runners-up of the division, earn automatic promotion to the Football League One. The fourth to seventh-placed teams feature in the playoffs, and the winner joins the first three in the Football League One.
Relatively, the two clubs that finish at the bottom of League Two are relegated to the National League. The pair is replaced by champions of the National League and the winner of the second to seventh playoffs in the division.
Football League Two clubs are eligible to play in the FA Cup, EFL Cup, and the EFL Trophy. A team from the division could also feature in the UEFA Europa League through the FA Cup or EFL Cup.
