With the current title holders losing ground against Pachuca, those who struggle to keep their spot in Mexican top flight were the talk of the weekend.

The Mexican Clausura tournament gave fans one of the most equalized weekend since the competition started, with four matches out of nine ending with even results. Nevertheless, there were some exciting matches during the weekend, starting Friday with the victory of Veracruz over Leon. The "Red Sharks" are the only unbeaten team in Liga MX, and are quickly becoming title contenders along with Tijuana and current title holder America, who disappointed their fans during their game at Estadio Hidalgo. Here's the recap for the three most exciting games.

Queretaro defeats Chivas with late-goal by Osuna

"El Rebaño" struggled all night long with Ronaldinho's team, but seemed comfortable taking one point from their visit to the Corregidora Stadium. During stoppage time, former Chivas midfielder Mario Osuna blasted a long-distance shot which could not be held by Luis Michel, giving Los Gallos Blancos their first win in over a month.

Monterrey defeats Toluca in a 5-goal thriller

Perhaps one of the most anticipated games this weekend, Los Rayados were able to overcome an early goal by Paraguayan Edgar Benitez to defeat Los Diablos Rojos 3-2. Edwin Cardona's brace was crucial for Antonio Mohamed's team, who has won two out of three games since taking control of the team four weeks ago. Curiously, Paulo Da Silva scored on both ends of the pitch, but putting the ball into the back of his own net lost three points for his side.

Edwin Cardona was named Player of the Week after his performance against Toluca.

Leones Negros adds thrill to the relegation battle

After last week's victory over Club America, Leones Negros had no mercy for Tigres, who made a trip to South America for their Copa Libertadores match against River Plate. The long flight affected Ricardo Ferretti's crew, who showed no arguments during the first 60 minutes of the game, even giving away an own goal. With the score level at 1-1, Fidel Martinez scored the decisive goal with less than 15 minutes to go, increasing his team's chances of maintaining themselves among the Mexican top flight. This was the first game of the season in which Leones Negros managed to score more than one goal.
