The former Spanish international has made history for his new club as they defeated New England Revolution 2-0.

Following a draw against Orlando City in their first game on the road, New York City FC kicked off their home campaign by welcoming New England Revolution to Yankee Stadium.

Both matches were eagerly anticipated by MLS fans and today's game did not disappoint. Simply put, one could not write it better. David Villa, who was the first ever player to sign for the newly created club back in 2014, showed his class by coolly putting NYC FC 1-0 up over NE Revolution heading into the half-time break.

The 33-year-old, who is not only the all-time top scorer for the Spanish national team but also serves as the club's first captain, now has made history as he scored the team's first ever home goal. And to make things better, he grabbed himself an assist as the match concluded as a 2-0 result in favour of Jason Kreis's side.
