England’s Euro 2012 qualifying campaign will open with a match against Bulgaria on Friday, September 3. Steven Gerrard is ready to forget about his team’s poor World Cup adventure by bouncing back with a great Euro 2012 qualifying run.

Steven Gerrard, who last time revealed that he would have booed the Three Lions if he was a supporter, perfectly understands why England are in such a tough situation. The Liverpool play maker explained on Thursday:

“The players realize – and the manager too – that we are under pressure at the moment. That’s normal, after underperforming at a World Cup. But it will really help if we put in a positive performance tomorrow [against Bulgaria] and get maximum points. Then, we can take the confidence from that into the Switzerland game on Tuesday.”

When England hosted Hungary in an international friendly match at the Wembley Stadium, Steven Gerrard saved England from sinking into more troubles as his brace secured the Three Lions a hard-fought 2-1 victory. The midfielder seems willing to carry the English team on his shoulders as the captain of the side. As he continued speaking to the media, Steven Gerrard stated:

“That’s the challenge. It is very important for us to show to all the supporters and make a statement that we want to win the group. A good positive result [against Bulgaria] will certainly help [us winning the fans’ favor].

“I am really enjoying being captain [of England’s national football team]. I thrive on responsibility and my performances for England have been good lately. I’m happy with my form.”

Steven Gerrard also spoke about the team in general as England look to find a suitable squad to compete for honors. The Liverpool man declared:

“After the team underperformed in South Africa, there have been changes made. With the injuries to big players as well, I think it’s a fantastic opportunity for players to stake their claim and to perform well and to give the manager something to think about.”

The Three Lions are in Group G with Montenegro, Switzerland, and Wales. England play Bulgaria at 3:00pm EST on Friday, September 3. Visit the England vs Bulgaria Live Streaming and TV Schedule page for more info concerning this Euro 2012 qualifying fixture.
