English defender Ashley Cole terminated his contract with Roma in order to sign a new deal with the 2014 MLS Cup champions.

Former English international Ashley Cole could be on the verge of joining Steven Gerrard with Los Angeles Galaxy, as the left back and the club decided to put an end to their relationship with immediate effect.

The team issued a press release where they thanked Cole "for his commitment during his stay in Rome", while wishing him the best for his future career.

Cole played 11 Serie A games for Roma, adding two more for Coppa Italia and three UEFA Champions League outings.

Sources indicate that the 35-year old player will be joining Steven Gerrard with the L.A. Galaxy, becoming the third English player to join the California-based team following David Beckham and the former Liverpool midfielder. Cole and Gerrard played together in the English National team in the 2006 and 2010 World Cup editions, and they will be keen on repeating their partnership again.

Cole's deal with the American team is expected to be announced in the following days.
