In the other fixture of the big kick-off, San Jose Earthquakes will face their cross-conference counterparts Montreal Impact. SJ Earthquakes, on the other hand, will use this match to gauge the effectiveness of their new signings. One thing you need to know is the absence of Didier Drogba in Impact's team for this season. The Ivory Coast forward left the club late last season, and is currently without a club.
The impact come into this match having never lost to San Jose in all their previous meetings. They have won thrice and drawn twice in their five meetings since May 28, 2011.
But this should not stop the Quakes from their goal of reaching the playoffs for the first time in half a decade. And with the likes of Tommy Thompsons, Jackson Yuell, Marcos Urena, Danny Hoesen and the lethal Chris Wondolowski all available for selection, the hosts have no excuse here.
