And this was a topic all too close to the Frenchman's heart.

On Sunday, fans will be treated to the always exciting north London derby. Tottenham and Arsenal lock horns in a game which could mark the end of the Gunners’ dominance over their bitter rivals.

For long Wenger’s boys enjoyed superiority over Spurs, finishing above them for the last 21 seasons. It was way back in 1994/95 when Arsenal ended the season with fewer points than Tottenham.

Ahead of their weekend White Hart Lane clash, Arsene handed Pochettino’s side one warning: pay your players more or risk losing them. This is a topic all too close to Le Prof’s heart. Seeing the club through the construction of the Emirates, financial restrictions saw the Gunners miss out on key target and lose influential players to their richer rivals.

And Tottenham have several star names to lose. With the league’s best defense, any of their back four would be an excellent signing for their high-spending rivals. Then there is Harry Kane and Dele Alli, two young players at the heart of Pochettino’s revolution.

The striker pockets £80,000 a week; the sensational midfielder earns £60,000 a week. The club’s highest earner, captain Hugo Lloris, is one a similar wage structure, making an estimated £100,000-per-week.

“For a longer time, if the budget is too much difference it's impossible. The best players at some stage, when you get to a level, they want to be paid like the other players at that level. If the differential is too big, you're never able to keep your best players,” Wenger said (as per the Daily Mail).

With Tottenham due to move to a new stadium, Arsene added: “It's very difficult — much more than you can imagine.”

“First of all, you face financial restrictions, which we did. Overall, it might be less in future because you have more income.

“Secondly, because you don't feel at home like you were before. And you need to recreate a kind of history to feel comfortable and to feel like you play at home.”
