The Spanish midfielder has finally come clean on what prompted his move away from the Premier League.

Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has slammed Maurizio Sarri for the treatment he received at the latter stage of his career with the Blues. The Spanish midfielder has cited the relationship between the ex-Napoli coach and Italian midfielder Jorginho as a key factor behind his departure from the Premier League club.

Fabregas joined Chelsea from Barcelona in 2014 but bid an emotional farewell to the Stamford Bridge and signed for AS Monaco in January after winning two Premier League titles. The arrival of Maurizio Sarri earlier this season saw the 31-year-old Spanish midfielder's chances of playing curtailed with the Italian manager opting for the signing of Jorginho from his former club Napoli.

While the 27-year-old midfielder impressed from the onset, his form momentarily hit a snag midway into the season. However, calls for the ex-Partenopei star to be dropped by Sarri fell on deaf ears although Chelsea's struggles refused to fade away.

Speaking at a Monaco press conference on his time back in the Premier League as well as his experience in Ligue 1 so far, Fabregas stated: "I like to have new objective.

"All the time for me it's important to have a new objective in my head.

"I was at Chelsea and I could have renewed my contract and stayed there but a new coach came with a player that for him was like his son.

"For me it was difficult to play every single game and that's what I want to do. I love football. I don't want to just be happy to play for Chelsea.

"For whatever reason it was impossible for me even if I was better, or someone else is better, to play every match and I decided to come to a project that was different for me and I think it will give me so much satisfaction."
