The three were honored with the topmost accolades at the 2019 edition of the award ceremony.

Olympique Lyon's Dzsenifer Marozsan and Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus have been adjudged as Germany's best female and male Footballers of The Year with Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp clinching the Coach of the Year accolade.

It was generally a year to remember for the German nationals who tasted unprecedented successes on the individual as well as collective level with their respective clubs. Dzsenifer Marozsan, who is a third-time recipient of the award, was recognized once more after starring in Lyon Féminin's incredible run to securing a treble in the 2018/2019 season.

In the men's category, Marco Reus was named the Footballer of the Year for the second time in his career having impressed for Dortmund last season. The 30-year-old striker stayed clear of his injury problems and almost fired Die BVB to the Bundesliga title, scoring 21 goals across all competitions in the process.

The Association of German Sports Journalists, together with football magazine Kicker, gave Reus 150 votes out of the total 540 casted to pip Bayer Leverkusen prodigy Kai Havertz and Bayern Munich full-back Joshua Kimmich to the accolade.

"It's nicer than it was then, a different feeling to seven years ago," Reus declared in his acceptance speech.

"If you're a player with only three or four years left, you celebrate success a little more emotionally than before and enjoy the whole thing more.

"It is difficult to come back after an injury as serious as my cruciate ligament rupture in 2017 and become Footballer of the Year, which makes me proud and shows that I have taken a good path after my injury."

Relatively, Reus' former manager Jurgen Klopp beat off competition from Fortuna Dusseldorf's Friedhelm Funkel and Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Adi Hutter to secure the Coach of the Year award for a record-third time. The 52-year-old manager led Liverpool to the 2019 UEFA Champions League title and narrowly missed out to Manchester City for the Premier League trophy.

"I know who I owe this great award to: my team and my coaching team," the Liverpool head coach declared.

"Only as a collective can we achieve the successes we have achieved.

"I am also happy for Friedhelm Funkel and Adi Hutter, whose great work has been recognised."
