Another German masterclass!

There was no room for niceties in Wednesday's clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich as the latter showed no restraint in orchestrating one of the biggest wins in the history of the UEFA Champions League. Led by former Arsenal boy Serge Gnabry, the German champions blew Mauricio Pochettino's men into oblivion by banging in seven goals at their new stomping grounds.

Any predictions based on earlier signs would have been rendered inaccurate as it was Spurs who paved the way for the onslaught to begin through Heung-min Son in the 12. Barely three minutes later, Joshua Kimmich restored parity for the visitors before Robert Lewandowski fired them into the lead on the stroke of half-time.

The early minutes of the second half ushered in the Gnabry show as the former Arsenal star grabbed two goals in quick succession between the 53rd and 55th minutes. The 22-year-old German winger will go on to add two more late goals for his poker after Harry Kane had pulled one back for the hosts from the penalty spot.

In between Gnabry's double at the latter part of the encounter, Lewandowski increased his tally for the season to 13 in 10 games with his second of the night. Below is a list of the milestones attained in Wednesday night's massacre:

  • Bayern is the first club in Champions League history to score seven goals in two away games (against Roma in 2014 and against Tottenham in 2019)

  • Tottenham's 2-7 defeat to Bayern was the biggest-ever margin of defeat suffered by an English team at home in any European competition.

  • Tottenham Hotspur is the first English side to concede seven goals in any European competition since 1995.

  • Tottenham Hotspur has conceded seven goals in a home match for the very first time in any major competition.

  • Serge Gnabry became the second-ever to score four or more goals against an English team in the UEFA Champions League's history. He is the first since Cristiano Ronaldo did so at Real Madrid in 2015 against Malmo.

  • Bayern Munich has lost none of its last 10 away matches in the ChampionsLeague League (7W, 3D). With the win against Spurs, the Bavarians equalized their club record from October 2012 until April 2014.
