The French footballer may have aggravated his injury by playing in a charity match during the last days of 2019.

Manchester United's defeat on New Year's Day was not the only bad news their fans got, as Paul Pogba's absence has been confirmed by coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The footballer has only been able to play eight games for the Red Devils this season, and now, the team's medical staff has urged him to undergo ankle surgery to correct the problem that has sidelined him for most of the season, according to the Norwegian boss.

"He's injured, and he will probably need an ankle surgery. We'll see how much time he needs to come back. We ran some tests on him, and even though it's not a big deal, he needs to take care of it. The doctors believe that it's necessary to perform the surgery as soon as possible," Solskjaer said.

The Norwegian boss admitted that not having Pogba around will give him a major headache in the next few weeks, because he believed he would be able to work with him as soon as the year began.

"Paul's absence is a major blow for us, especially now. We will have to deal with his absence for the next three to four weeks," Solskjaer added.

Man United legends urge Pogba to speak up on his current status

Once Pogba's situation has been clarified by Solskjaer, there are some former Manchester United players who have stepped up to ask Pogba for an explanation on his whereabouts.

Such is the case of Robin Van Persie and Rio Ferdinand, who voiced their thoughts on BT Sport about the Frenchman's situation at Old Trafford and asked him not to lay low and have his agent speaking for him.

According to Van Persie, Pogba's words could shed light on a potential move away from the club, and that's something that fans need to know.

"His situation is a mystery. I believe it's important for all of us to hear from Paul if he wants to stay or if he wants to go," RVP stated.

Then, Rio Ferdinand shared his views on Pogba's situation, and he urged the player to step up and share his feelings rather than letting his inner circle -mainly his agent Mino Raiola- do all the talking.

"If I was someone sitting there advising Paul, I'd say 'Go and speak out. You're your own man. Your voice is going to be heard the loudest. Don't let your agent speak, shut your agent down," Ferdinand concluded.
