In this Supercopa Femenina Final preview, we will take look at Real Sociedad and Barcelona’s head-to-head record, players to watch and broadcast listings including where and how you can watch the match.

The first edition of the Supercopa de Espana Femenina is at its final stage with last year’s Copa de la Reina champions, Atletico Bilbao, facing the 2018-2019 UEFA Women's Champions League and Primera Iberdrola runners-up, Barcelona, on February 9 in Salamanca, Spain.

It was not an easy task to get to this final. Real Sociedad and Barcelona knocked out Atletico Madrid and Levante in the semi-final stage by minimal difference. But first, let’s find out how they made it here.

About the 2019-2020 Supercopa de Espana Femenina

The tournament features the prior season’s Copa de la Reina finalists and the top-two teams from the Primera Division. Given the fact that Atletico Madrid was the 2018-2019 Primera Division champions and the 2018-2019 Copa de la Reina runners-up, Levante, which finished third place in the Primera Division, was admitted to the four-team pool. Real Sociedad won the 2018-2019 Copa de la Reina, meanwhile, Barcelona finished second in the league.

Supercopa de Espana Femenina Semifinals

The first two matches of this three-match tournament attracted over 10,000 spectators to the Helmantico Stadium, home of Salamanca FC.

On February 5, Real Sociedad went on to defeat Levante, a team that had just demolished the Basque club 3-0 in January and is currently 10 points ahead of them in the league. It was 23-year-old Leire Banos who scored the definitive goal in the 17th minute.

The next day lived a totally different football experience with Atletico Madrid and Barcelona taking constant jabs at one another. It was Atletico Madrid’s Toni Duggan who opened the scoring in this match. Nonetheless, Barcelona retaliated with three goals before the halftime whistle. Veronica Corral got one goal back in the 60th minute for las Colchoneras, but Atletico failed to score in the remaining half hour.

Now, Real Sociedad, a team that lacks silverware, has a chance to go up against a strong Barcelona side as both teams look to be the first to conquer the women’s version of the Supercopa.

Real Sociedad vs Barcelona: head-to-head

Dating back to May 2014, these two clubs have met 12 times. Barcelona has won 10 of those matches while La Real has only forced two 0-0 draws. One of those draws came in the shape of a Copa de la Reina quarter-final second leg in May 2014 and the other in a Primera Division fixture in February 2018. It has been two years since Real Sociedad stopped Barcelona from scoring on them.

Barcelona dwarfs Real Sociedad in goals with 26 to four. This game is Barcelona’s to lose even though they are the obvious favorites.

Players to watch

Nahikari Garcia – Real Sociedad

Unless you look at Barcelona or Atletico de Madrid, teams in the Primera Division usually have just one striker who is bagging in goals. In Real Sociedad’s case, Nahikari Garcia is that one player the team relies on. She has 10 appearances on the season and has scored 10 goals. Pretty impressive for a 22-year-old.

Asisat Oshoala – Barcelona

The 25-year-old Nigerian was named African Women’s Footballer of the Year for the fourth time in January and has not stopped shining since. The forward has found the back of the net six times throughout five matches. Jenni Hermoso and Lieke Martens will help Oshoala when going forward.
