Preview: PSG vs Saint-Étienne
PSG come into this match having played three friendlies to warm up for their first competitive match in months since the season was interrupted by COVID-19. Les Parisiens easily cruised to victory in all their warm-up games, picking up huge wins against Le Havre (9-0), Waasland-Beveren (7-0), and most recently, decorated Scottish side Celtic (4-0), and showing that despite months without football, rust has not set in for many of Thomas Tuchel's stars. Indeed, players like Kylian Mbappe and Neymar looked solid enough on the ball, as both scored during the trio of matches - albeit Neymar's strong showing against Celtic was marred by a spat with Celtic boss Neil Lennon, with the manager growing frustrated with the Brazilian superstar's perceived "antics" on the pitch.
Having already won the Ligue 1 title, PSG now turn their attention towards sealing a second trophy this season: the Coupe de France. Not surprisingly, they're the heavy favorites to win as they prepare to take on opponents Saint-Etienne, who, despite winning their first three friendly matches, ended up losing 1-0 to Anderlecht in their final warm-up tie. In addition, Les Verts had a poor season, finishing in 17th spot with just 30 points; in fact, they were just three points from the drop zone before the season was cancelled, so had the full 2019/2020 campaign progressed as normal, it's quite possible they could have actually been sucked down into the unwanted relegation battle.
