The Manchester United boss made a shocking admission after his side settled for a point in Saturday's clash with their rivals.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed that his side produced their "best performance" ever in any Manchester derby he has been in charge of despite the results favoring neither of the two clubs. A rather pragmatic approach to the Saturday's encounter resulted in spoils being shared as both clubs failed to find the back of the net.

The much anticipated clash failed to entertain neutrals with both Manchester United and Manchester City sticking to their tactics handbook with the fear of exposing themselves to being exploited by the immense attacking talents present at Old Trafford. The fact that a combined four shots managed to find the target in the whole duration of the proceeding basically tells the full story with the best of chances falling to the Citizens.

Nevertheless, the defensive acumen of both clubs were commendable with Manchester City equalling a club record of six successive clean sheets in all competitions as a result. Relatively, Manchester United picked up a rather unsavory milestone as they failed to score in three home league games this season, one more than in the whole of the 2019-20 campaign at Old Trafford.

Contrary to the statistics, the club's manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suggested in his full-time remarks that the performance he witnessed was the best yet in the local derby since his appointment. His side approached Saturday's game having secured back-to-back wins in the Premier League when the two sides met last season.

"In my time against Manchester City that's the best performance we have had," Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

"Not the best result but the best performance.

"It was a tight game. I know we beat them a few times last season but those were different games. They had a few big moments.

"It's two good teams. Tactically we knew they were going to give us some problems but defensively we were excellent. I'm delighted with the defensive shape.

"With the ball we didn't create as much as we wanted to."
