Preview: PSG vs Olympique Marseille
New PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino will have a great chance to win his first piece of silverware when Les Parisiens take on bitter rivals Marseille in the French Super Cup. Pochettino failed to win any trophies during a nearly six year tenure with Tottenham, but this time around his first chance at a trophy has come quite early in his reign.
The hosts will come into this match having cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Brest, which allows them to keep up the pressure on current league leaders Lyon. They will have more than just winning a trophy on their minds - Marseille defeated PSG earlier this season in Le Classique in a game that was marred by a nasty brawl on the pitch. Five red cards were dished out, and definitely both managers will hope not to have a repeat of that incident.
Whereas PSG have been in solid form lately, the same can't be said for Marseille. They've won just one of their last five Ligue 1 fixtures and last weekend fired blanks in a scoreless stalemate with relegation-threatened Dijon. Certainly, that is not how Andre Villas-Boas wanted his team to prepare for their first Trophee des Champions appearance in a decade, but one saving grace perhaps is the fact that Marseille do have a couple of games in hand which could help them move up the table if everything goes according to plan.
Team news: PSG vs Olympique Marseille
PSG: Fortunately for Pochettino, he has started to recover many of his key players who were out injured. Star man Neymar has resumed training, but he's unlikely to be involved in this upcoming match as part of the starting XI. Presnel Kimpembe, Danilo Pereira and Leandro Paredes were also involved in training, and it remains to be seen if any of those players feature, and in what capacity. However, both Rafinha and Thilo Kehrer are out due to positive COVID-19 tests.
Marseille: Morgan Sanson is in doubt for this match as he isstruggling with a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, Jordan Amavi is still out.
