The Citizens will be looking to maintain their impressive EPL winning streak when they visit Turf Moor on Wednesday. Here's a preview of Burnley vs Man City.

Burnley vs Man City – Preview

Man City are preparing for a tricky midweek Premier League fixture as the league leaders are set to visit Burnley on Wednesday for their 1 p.m. ET clash. The last time these two sides met, the Citizens enjoyed an emphatic 5-0 triumph, with Guardiola's men aiming to repeat this feat in a bid to maintain their impressive winning streak.

The Citizens head into this game on the back of their 1-0 victory over Sheffield United, with Gabriel Jesus' ninth-minute strike earning the Manchester giants all three points. The result was a crucial one as Pep decided to rest several key players, with the likes of Stones, Cancelo, Rodri, Sterling, and Mahrez getting a breather.

That triumph was their eighth in a row in the English top-flight, a run of form that has lifted them to the league summit. Guardiola's men sit three points ahead of second-placed Man Utd and boast a four-point advantage over defending champions Liverpool, who are in third. Furthermore, City boast a game in hand over the Red Devils and Merseyside giants, thus putting the title race firmly in their court.

However, as we have seen throughout the course of this Premier League season, one or two bad results can swing the entire title race. As a result, Pep cannot afford to slip up on Wednesday in their trip to Turf Moor. Sean Dyche's men recently lost 2-0 to Chelsea, which will work in Man City's favor, but it should not be forgotten that the Clarets registered impressive back-to-back victories prior to the Stamford Bridge defeat.

Barnes and Co. ended Liverpool's stunning unbeaten run at Anfield around two weeks ago, beating Klopp's men 1-0 in an unforgettable game. After that came a 3-2 triumph over Dean Smith's high-flying Aston Villa, with Burnley twice coming back from a goal down to earn all three points.

Regardless, the Clarets are the second-worst attacking team in the EPL and will thus need a remarkable display in order to beat the best defense in the league. Can Sean Dyche's crew hand Guardiola's side an upset? Tune in to find out.

Team news

Burnley: Ashley Barnes, having sat out the recent trip to Chelsea due to a knock, will undergo a late test to determine his fitness. The same goes for Chris Wood, which is a huge concern for Dyche. Charlie Taylor and Josh Brownhill are also doubts.

Man City: De Bruyne remains sidelined and the same is true for summer signing Nathan Ake. The likes of Sterling, Mahrez, and Stones will be hoping to start after being rested over the weekend. Aguero is back after recovering from COVID-19 but is unlikely to be thrown straight into the lineup, meaning Jesus is all but destined to retain his spot in the starting XI.

Key stats

  • Man City have won their last seven matches against Burnley in all competitions.

  • The Citizens haven't conceded a goal in their last five Premier League games.

  • The Clarets have scored only 13 goals so far this season. Only Sheffield United (12) have a worse record in the Premier League.
