The Arsenal starlet has been in good form for his club side so far this season, and his hard work looks set to pay off as he's expected to start against Iran on Monday.

Four years ago, England were unfortunately knocked out during the semi-finals by eventual finalists Croatia. A year ago, they again suffered heartbreak during the re-scheduled EURO 2020 competition, as Italy defeated them on spot kicks.

Arsenal youngster Bukayo Saka was one of the players who was unable to convert his penalty, which would certainly be a crushing blow for any player and especially for someone so young.

However, the now 21-year-old has put that firmly behind him, as he has been a top performer for Mikel Arteta's side as Arsenal have certainly exceeded all expectations so far this season. The Gunners currently sit on top of the table, with Saka being directly involved in 11 goals (five goals, six assists) and as a result of his excellent form, he earned a deserved spot in Gareth Southgate's 26-man squad.

Saka also put on an excellent show to help England claw their way back from 2-0 down to salvage a three-all draw in their last Nations League match against Germany. Although the Three Lions ended up being relegated, and come into this competition winless in their last six competitive matches, Saka, according to reports, has done enough for club and country to earn a spot in Southgate's starting XI as England prepare to face Iran.

The same report also claims that Saka's inclusion means that a fellow starlet, Manchester City's Phil Foden, looks likely to for a spot on the bench.

England kick off their clash against Iran on Monday at 13.00 GMT, before taking on the USMNT on Friday, followed by concluding their group stage campaign against Wales on the 29th.
