Argentina vs Mexico - How to watch the crucial tie for Messi and Co. in Group C

November 25, 2022 By Oscar Rojas
El Tri and La Albiceleste add one more chapter to their World Cup rivalry, with Argentina trying to keep their dominance and with the Mexicans eager to shift the tide in their favor.

One of the most anticipated games of the World Cup will be taking place on November 26, when Argentina and Mexico face each other with much to lose in this Group C tie. These teams have met quite a few times in FIFA World Cup games, and the intense rivalry between them will only make this clash even more interesting with all that is at stake here.

Argentina make it to this game trying to recover from the shock loss they suffered against Saudi Arabia, and now, La Albiceleste will be facing a do-or-die scenario no one in the world imagined at this point of the competition. For the first time since the 2018 World Cup, La Albiceleste face elimination right in the eye if they are unable to beat El Tri, although their record against their rivals may see them be confident about their options.

As for Mexico, the team led by Tata Martino will try to pull off a stunning result for the fourth straight World Cup. The North Americans defeated France in 2010, went on to limit Brazil to a goalless draw, and started their run in 2018 with a win against Germany. Mexico rescued a point from their initial match against Poland, but that result ended up giving more hope to their people, and after another stellar performance by goalkeeper Memo Ochoa, Mexican fans seem to believe that anything is posible against La Albiceleste, even if their history against the blue and white side is far from flattering.

The game could be even more relevant to the fate of these teams if Saudi Arabia end up beating Poland in the other group match, meaning that if there is a winner in this clash, then the loser will have almost no options of making it to the next round. To make it even more interesting, a draw in both games could leave everything open for the final matchday between all teams in this group.

Let us have a closer look at some of the key points that may shift the tide in favor of any of these teams in this crucial clash.

Argentina vs Mexico - Team news

The Argentine side will enter this game with much to prove after their defeat against Saudi Arabia, but the good news for them have to do with the availability of their entire squad, including Angel Di María and Lionel Messi, who made it to the clash against the Arabians with some fitness doubts. It is yet to be seen if coach Lionel Scaloni decides to make any changes to the lineup Scaloni used during the first game, with Lisandro Martínez and Leandro Paredes being named by experts as the possible changes in the team's starting XI.

On the other side of the pitch, Mexico could shift to a five-man defensive line, with Nestor Araujo being man to join César Montes and Héctor Moreno at center back. Another player that seems to be ready to play this game is Andrés Guardado, who could make history by playing a game in a fifth different World Cup edition. Elsewhere, coach Martino could also give the starting nod up front to Argentine-born Rogelio Funes Mori as a replacement to Henry Martín.
