On Sunday, England's journey at this year's World Cup came to an end as the Three Lions were beaten in the quarter-finals by reigning champs France.
It means that the EURO 2020 finalists will have to wait two more years to try to win a major title, and despite the stars already having headed home and are looking forward to getting back involved with their various Premier League clubs, fans and pro-England pundits are still seething about what they felt was an unfair result.
Namely, the performance of Brazilian referee Wilton Sampaio has gotten quite a few of riled up. Although Sampaio gave England two penalties during the course of the match, both of which were taken by Harry Kane, many England supporters still feel that the official did a poor job in managing the match.
Some points of contention included fouls on Kane, Mason Mount, and Bukaoyo Saka, as well as an apparent handball by Antoine Griezmann. The last two of these four aforementioned incidents were involved in the build-ups to both of France's goals, leading many England supporters to feel that Sampaio should be sanctioned by FIFA and not take part in the competition.
However, FIFA has ruled in the Brazilian's favor, meaning that he is still in contention to officiate any of the remaining matches in this year's competition, including Sunday's final which will feature the winners of Tuesday's and Wednesday's semi-finals which will feature Argentina vs Croatia and France vs Morocco.
It comes in stark contrast to FIFA deciding to remove Antonio Mateu Lahoz after Lionel Messi's complaints. The Spanish referee dished out nearly 20 yellow cards (18 to be exact) during an ill tempered match between Argentina and the Netherlands that was eventually settled via spot kicks after 120 minutes.
