After a long pause due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Manchester City will restart their Premier League campaign with an away match against Leeds on Wednesday, December 28th.

Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City will be seeking to close the gap on the top two sides when they travel to face Leeds United on Wednesday. Pep Guardiola's men come into this match in third spot, and will hope to rebound after a surprise 2-1 reversal to Brentford last time out. As things stand, Newcastle sit one point clear thanks to a stunning start to the season, while Arsenal still continue to manage to lead the table, with an eight point gap over City. However, both teams have already played their respective fixtures, with Newcastle recording a resounding 3-0 road win over Leicester while Arsenal defeated West Ham 3-1 last time out.

Hence, City will look to take advantage of Leeds side who have been in poor form this season. Wednesday's hosts come into this contest having picked up just 15 points from their 15 matches, and as such Jesse Marsch's side find themselves narrowly hovering just above the drop zone. The American tactician will also have a major selection headache, with numerous players out injured, sick, or suspended.

This game will be an interesting one for City striker Erling Haaland, who was born in Leeds while his father was playing for the club. Of course, any sentimental feelings will be totally ignored as the Norwegian international, whose country did not qualify for this year's World Cup, will look to continue in the same blistering form that has seen him surge to the top of the goal-scoring charts.

With a whopping 18 goals - yes, that's 18 - so far, it is hard to see how Haaland, who is quite well rested after not being involved in Qatar, will be able to be kept quiet over the course of 90 minutes by an injury ravaged Leeds side. Still, the onus will be on the visitors to ensure they pick up three points in order to leap-frog Newcastle back into second and continue keeping up the pressure on Arsenal by narrowing the gap to five points.
