The Portuguese icon confirmed his move to the Middle East on Friday, bringing a sad end to his time in Europe, but the player's salary has garnered tremendous scrutiny.

The day many fans have been dreading is finally here. Cristiano Ronaldo, the man nicknamed Mr. Champions League due to his historic career in UEFA's premier club competition, has brought an end to his time in Europe.

The 37-year-old left Manchester United during the recent FIFA World Cup, with the club and player agreeing to a mutual contract termination following his bombshell Piers Morgan interview in which he criticized the owners, the manager, and the day-to-day running of the Red Devils.

Since then, the iconic Portuguese attacker has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia as Al-Nassr were one of a handful of clubs showing true intent to sign the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

And while many were hopeful of seeing Cristiano remain in Europe, on Friday, the former Real Madrid superstar confirmed his move to the Middle East. The UEFA Champions League's all-time top scorer has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half year and will likely play out the remainder of his career in the Saudi Pro League.

While CR7 is yet to make his debut, one aspect of his Al-Nassr deal has already garnered heavy scrutiny and that is his wages.

Saudi Arabia boasts some of the wealthiest people in the world, and as a result, Ronaldo was made the highest-paid footballer in the world in the blink of an eye. However, some inaccurate information regarding his salary has been doing rounds.

As clarified by the well-known Fabrizio Romano, Cristiano's annual salary isn't precisely $200M. Instead, the player's guaranteed football wages are in the region of $90M per year, which is still outlandish.

However, Ronaldo was not only recruited to be an attacker for "Al-Aalami" but will also play an ambassador role for both the club and the country in their attempt to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup. As a result, his sponsorship/commercial agreements will see his base salary increase threefold, earning him close to the aforementioned $200M per year in total.

While this move has sparked memes from one corner and criticism from another, football fans are in agreeance over one thing: Ronaldo's move to Al-Nassr sparks a regretful end to what has been an outstanding career.
