Chelsea's capture of Joao Felix on loan appears to have set off a sort of transfer merry-go-round, if multiple reports are to be believed.
Atletico Madrid are now apparently in the hunt for a new striker following Felix's departure, with Barcelona's Memphis Depay being one of the names linked with a move to Diego Simeone's side.
Meanwhile, should Depay leave, additional reports indicate that the Blaugrana will be looking for someone to replace him. Although the Dutch international did not get much playing time, especially with the signing of Robert Lewandowski, Xavi's side will still like to have a solid back up option that could be called on at various points during the campaign.
Interestingly, one player that has been mentioned as someone who could fill Depay's spot should he leave is none other than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Yes, the same Aubameyang who was signed by Chelsea earlier this season, and has struggled so far at Stamford Bridge. The Gabonese international was signed under Thomas Tuchel's reign after enjoying a good working relationship with the German, but Graham Potter's arrival has not seen him re-discover the form that made him a fan favorite at Arsenal.
Hence, with Felix expected to be picked ahead of Aubameyang, he may be open to a return to Camp Nou, less than one year after moving to West London.
Of course, plenty of stipulations would have to be met, including Atletico being on board with Depay's wage demands - or the two sides come to an agreement - while Chelsea will have to be comfortable with letting Aubameyang go on a free transfer.
But plenty of interesting things have happened in football's transfer market, so a move back to Spain less than a year after departing certainly isn't impossible.
