The Blaugrana side have already held negotiations with the player's agent, who also controls all contract issues for Andreas Christensen.

Barcelona's plan to add more talent to their squad based on free agents seems to be the right way to go to help their ailing finances, and the Blaugrana side has reportedly identified their newest target for the upcoming transfer window.

Reports from Spanish media outlets stated earlier this week that Los Culés' exec Mateu Alemany had a meeting with Andreas Christensen's agent. Nevertheless, the meeting was also used by the Catalan officer to discuss the future of another footballer, who's contract is set to expire by the end of the season.

The player in question is none other than Ilkay Gündogan, who has not extended his deal at Manchester City and has been named as a good option to boost the Catalans' midfield. The German midfielder has played for the Cityzens since 2016, where he has won four Premier League titles and five Cup trophies, four of them coming in the League Cup.

While Alemany dismissed that the meeting between the agent and himself had anything to do with Gündogan's future, the sporting director for Los Culés admitted that the 32-year-old midfielder is in the agenda to boost the team shortly.

"It is my duty to know that Gündogan will become a free agent this summer," Alemany told Movistar+.

The player is reportedly considering all options, which may also include extending his deal with Manchester City. It has also been reported that the player's wife, who is close to giving birth to their son, would be keen on staying in England, which may put an end to Barcelona's pursuit of the footballer even before the summer.
