Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez as pleaded with the club's fans to be patient with the team amid the club's recent struggles. The 22-year-old has insisted that an upturn in form is not far away but the new arrivals need to adapt to their new environment and learn how to work together first before success can be attained.
In January, Chelsea added several new players to their squad, including Fernandez who became the club's most expensive signing at $131M (£107M) from Benfica. Other arrivals in the same month included Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, Malo Gusto, Joao Felix - acquired on loan from Atletico - and David Datro Fofana.
Despite these additions, the Blues' performance in the Premier League has been disappointing, with the club recording just one win in the last 10 matches across all competitions, and scoring just three goals during the period. The poor run of form has left Chelsea struggling to make a claim for a Champions League spot as they currently rank 10th on the Premier League table.
With calls for the sack of manager Graham Potter increasing with each passing match day, Enzo has asked for calm among the club's fanbase with the assurance that things will change for the best at the right time. The World Cup winner iterated that it has been difficult for the team to gel considering the short period of time they have been together.
"When you get that amount of young lads — and we've all had 20 days to get to know each other on and off the field — when you're talking about the standard of football here in the Premier League it's hard to gel as a team," the Argentine said.
"My message would be to the fans: trust the players, trust the backroom staff, trust the manager, because we are all moving in the same direction.
"We have got a lot of new faces here and it is a restructuring of the club, really, and the playing staff. I would encourage them to be patient.
"We know it's a tough standard. But we've been given all the tools we need by the coaching staff and the manager here. It's just a case of being patient and we will get to know each other."
Meanwhile, Chelsea be eyeing a resurgence will travel to Tottenham Hotspur for Sunday's London derby. The two teams registered a 2-2 draw when they met in the first round and each side will be hoping to secure the full spoils when they clash this time around.
