The Brazilian ace is set to undergo surgery after suffering a serious ankle injury, sparking debate as to whether his absence is a positive or negative overall.

PSG are preparing for their highly-anticipated UEFA Champions League showdown with Bayern Munich as the French giants head to the Allianz Arena with the sole goal of overturning the 1-0 scoreline from the 1st leg of this round of 16 tie.

Unfortunately, the French giants will be without one of their star players on Wednesday. That man is Neymar, the outrageously talented Brazilian who has endured a career full of highs and lows.

The 31-year-old suffered a serious ankle injury during his side's dramatic 4-3 win over Lille in mid-February. The Selecao sensation, who is set to undergo surgery, has thus been ruled out for the rest of the season and will be forced to watch this 2nd leg from the sidelines.

The former Barcelona ace has made 29 appearances for PSG this season and contributed to a whopping 35 goals, scoring 18 and assisting 17 across all competitions. However, speaking ahead of Wednesday's showdown at the Allianz Arena, head coach Christophe Galtier openly admitted to there being one major upside to Neymar's absence.

The French tactician confessed that his side could introduce more balance to the lineup now that the Brazilian is sidelined. However, it should be noted that Galtier ultimately stressed the importance of the Selecao attacker and his irreplaceable importance in the final third.

"I see there has been a debate around this," Galtier said, as per Goal.

"It's a loss, clearly. Is the team more balanced? Yes.

"Is it better like this? I will say that having him is better to score goals."

While Neymar, Messi, and Mbappe strike fear in the hearts of opposition defenders, none offer any support defensively. As a result, the Ligue 1 leaders often get overrun and dominated in matches against fellow continental giants.

The first leg of their clash with Bayern Munich is a great example. The German side dominated the ball and Les Parisiens struggled to regain possession off of the Bundesliga holders.

Nonetheless, with Mbappe and Co. needing to overturn a 1-0 deficit, it will be interesting to see how they fare in the absence of one of their most prolific attackers.
